Bring the indoors outside with a choice of decking to help relax and enjoy the outdoors

    Decking

Garden decking is a popular way to transform your garden and give it an instant facelift. It can turn a neglected garden into an entertainment space which can be enjoyed by all the family. Garden decking is perfect for alfresco dining or as a place to lounge and relax. Additionally, a decked area in your garden, will add value to your home and be an expense which is well worth your investment. Decking is also a great idea if you have a sloped or uneven garden, as a decked area can define different areas of your garden and help create a multi-level perspective.

Decking options vary, from the type of wood and the colour of the finish to the shape and style. We can guide you through the entire process from design and fitting to aftercare and maintenance if required. We are happy to finish your decking in stain, varnish or decking oil.

First of all, it’s essential to establish what your primary uses for the decking will be. If you would like to enjoy it as an alfresco dining space, then it’s crucial you have easy access from the kitchen. If you are going to use the area for relaxation and sunbathing, you need to consider if the positioning of the decking will maximise access to the sun. We advise an option for shade so you can enjoy it all year round. If you would like it as a play area for children, then safety should be paramount, we always make considerations for non-slip surfaces and railings. Critical factors of decking, aside from the choice of the materials, should include usage, easy access, positioning, sunlight, shade, safety, maintenance and drainage.

    Garden Decking Materials

Decked areas are often made from wood. Hardwood decking is the most expensive but lasts longer and has a superior look. Softwood decking is a less expensive option but will not last as long and will require more maintenance. Millboard decking is a wood alternative, it looks like the real thing but is much easier to maintain and is long-lasting. Composite decking is a mixture of wood shavings and plastic which is long-lasting. Don’t worry, we can show you samples and guide you through the best options for you. We prefer to use FSC wood (Forest Stewardship Council), which meets the highest environmental and social standards.

    Garden Decking Design Ideas

In terms of the overall design of the decking, you can be as creative as you want. From the size of the planks to the angles that they are laid. We can even cut out sections to allow for planting, which can add a splash of colour. We are even able to build decking around a tress if required. We can incorporate railings for safety and stairs for access into your design. Decking on different levels can also work well if you have a garden on an incline.

    Garden Decking Maintenance

Once fitted and varnished, your decking will require little maintenance. It will require occasional cleaning and removal of moss or other growth. Every few years, your decking will require servicing in the form of pressure washing, sanding and then re-varnishing or oiling. In some instances, some of the screws may require tightening to prevent squeaking. We are even happy to service decking that was not fitted by us.
